The Birmingham Giants 14u Softball team ran their unbeaten streak to 11 straight, including 4 more straight in Cullman on saturday. In their first pool play game, the Giants were matched up with Fusion 14u. Gracelyn McCarrell started the game in the circle and McKenzie Little closed out the final innings of the combined no hitter, the 82nd in Giants history. At the plate Sophie Gromko (2B), Lanie Otwell (2), McKenzie Little (1), Michaela Sweet (1), Reece Carden (1), Taylor Kindred (2B) and Gracelyn McCarrell (1) all had hits in the 3-2 win.
In game 2 of pool play, the Giants were matched up with the Georgia Thundercats 14u. Gracelyn McCarrell tossed the Birmingham Giants 83rd no hitter, striking out 3, and Sophie Gromko (1), and Michaela Sweet (1) had hits in the 4-0 win. The win sated the Giants first overall heading into bracket play.
In bracket play, the Giants faced off with the Phantom in the first round. McKenzie Little allowed just 2 hits over 2 innings of the 5-2 win. At the plate Jamie Burrell (1), Lanie Otwell (2, 1 3B), McKenzie Little (1), Michaela Sweet (2), and Brayley Mitchell (1) all had hits for the Giants in the win that moved them into the championship game.
In the Championship game the Giants were again paired up with Fusion. McKenzie Little struck out 4 over 3 innings and Sophie Gromko (2), Michaela Sweet (1), Sarah Beth Gill (1), Reece Carden (1), and Taylor Kindred (1) all had hits as the Giants finished off their 11th straight victory and grabbed the championship.
