Playing in their first tournament of the spring season, the Birmingham Giants 9U Baseball team posted a 1-1 mark on saturday before rolling off 3 straight on sunday. In game 1 of pool play the Giants were paired up with the sidewinders. At the plate hits from Mason Jones (1), Cam Buford(1), Tanner Egan (1), Luke Francis (1), Ethan Passmore (3B), and Berdis Blanding all had hits as the Giants pulled out the 12-10 win. In their second game of pool play, the Giants managed only 4 hits as they dropped the game 14-5. Hits came from Cam Buford (2), Luke Francis (1), and Berdis Blanding (1).
Moving into bracket play the Giants were matched up with the Chargers, the Giants erupted for 10 runs in the first 2 innings on their way to a 14-4 win. Tanner egain started the game on the mound , allowing just 3 hits over 4 innings and Mason jones struck out the final 2 hitters to close out the game. Hits came from Mason Jones (2), Cam Buford (3B), Ethan Passmore (1), Luke Francis (2), Will Shoults (1), Berdis Blanding (1), and Jace Mulvehill (2) to power the Giants offence in the win.
The win moved the Giants on to face the Sidewinders for the second time. The Giants again scored 10 runs in the first 2 inning on their way to 17-5 win. Cam Buford started the game with a pair of strike outs in the first inning and Mason Jones closed out the final 2 innings of the win. Offensively the Giants were led by Mason Jones (2), Cam Buford (2, 1 3B), Tanner Egan (3B), Luke Francis (2), Will Shoults (2B), Jace Mulvehill (2), Ethan Passmore (3), Landon Coleman (1), Berdis Blanding (2), Braeden Wainwright (1), and Miles Sanders(1). The win moved the Giants into the championship game.
In the final game, the Giants used a 10 run first inning to power themselves to a 15-0 win. Ethan Passmore allowed just 1 hit while striking out 7 over 3 innings and the Giants at the plate rolled on hits from Mason Jones (1), Cam Buford (1), Tanner Egan (1), Luke Francis (2B), Ethan Passmore (1), Berdis Blanding (1), Braeden Wainwright (HR) and Miles sanders (1) in the 3 inning run rule game.
