11u Birmingham Giants Softball brings home State Championship

Playing in the Grand Slam Tournament in Alabaster, the Birmingham Giants 11u Softball team, rolled off 5 straight wins on the way to collecting the Birmingham Giants 16th State Tournament win. Starting their day in pool play with Top Gun. Alyssa Broome started the game in the circle, striking out 6 over 4 innings, while allowing just 2 hits. At the plate Harper Riley (1), Alyssa Broome (2B), and Addison Praytor (1) had hits for the Giants in the 3-2 win. In their second game of pool play, Kendall Burch allowed just 3 runs on 2 hits while striking out 4, and offensively hits came from Ralee Burgett (2, 1 HR), Alyssa Broome (1), and Abigail Erreca (1) as the Giants won their second pool play game over SC Ice 5-3.

The win seated the Giants first overall heading into their first bracket play game against Top Gun. In a back and fourth battle, Giants defensive misques kept top gun in the game. Kendall Burch Fanned 6 over 3.2 innings and Harper Riley closed out the final out of the 8-7 win. Khloe Kennedy (1), Ralee Burgett (2 3Bs), Addison Praytor (1), and Kendall Burch (2, 1 2B) all had hits to power the Giants offense. The win moved the Giants into the Semi Final to Face Red Storm.

In the Semi-Finals game Harper Riley scattered 6 hits and 4 runs over 5 innings, and the Giants offense managed 7 hits (Ralee Burgett (2, 1 2B), Haylee Gothard (2B), Jessica Whitaker (1), Kendall Burch (1), and Sophia Carroll (2)) which drove in their 6 runs in the 6-4 win. The win moved the Giants into the finals of the double elimination state championship.

In the State Finals, the Giants again faced Top gun who had won their way back to the finals, and would now need to beat the unbeaten Giants 2 times to win the championship. The Giants however, had other plans. Harper Riley started the game in the circle and Kendall Burch closed out the final 3 innings, striking out 4, and Harper Riley (2B), Khloe Kennedy (1), Ralee Burgett (2, 1 2B), Haylee Gothard (1), Jessica Whitaker (1), and Kendall Burch (2) all had hits as the Giants won the championship in 1 game by a score of 6-3.
