Starting off their weekend at Turf Wars on saturday in Fultondale, The Birmingham Giants 10u Lathan were paired up with Sparks Elite. Makayla Mann started the day in the circle allowing just 1 hit over 3 innings, while striking out 4, and Kate Flannagan closed out the final inning of the Giants 4-1 win. At the plate Kate Flannagan (1), Andi Zannis (2, 3B, HR), Grace Turner (1), and Marilyn Hayes (1) all had hits as the Giants rolled 4-1. In game 2 of pool play, the Giants were matched up with White Lightning. Kate Flannagan allowed no hits over 2 innings, while striking out 5, and Marilyn Hayes closed out the final 2 innings of the Giants 101st No Hitter all time by striking out all 6 batters she faced in the Giants 7-0 win. At the plate Paige Bradshaw (1), Andi Zannis (1), Makayla Mann (2B), Kinley SSebert (2, 3B), Grace Turner (1), and Laney Little (3B) all had hits as the Giants rolled to the 7-0 win.
In their first bracket play game of Turf Wars, the Birmingham Giants were scheduled to play the Birmingham Thunderbolts 2029. Makayla Mann and Marilyn Hayes combined to allow just 2 hits and no earned runs, but the Giants were held scoreless and fell 3-0. Giant hits came from Makayla Mann (1), and Laney Little(1). The loss moved the Giants to the Losers bracket for their sunday play, where they would make their run.
In their first sunday bracket play game, the Giants faced off with Dynamite2k11. Kate Flannagan allowed no hits over 3 innings, while striking out 4 and Elsie Lowery struck out 2 over 2 innings of work as the Giants rolled to a 10-1 win. Ten Giant hits powered the offense (Makayle Mann (1), Grace Turner (2), Andi Zannis (2, 1 2B), Elsie Lowery (1), Kinley Sebert (1), Kate Flannagan (1), Paige Bradshaw (3B), and Laney Little (1) )in the victory. The win moved the Giants on to face White Lightning 2011.
In the bracket play game Grace Turner and Makayla Mann scattered 5 hits over 4 innings, allowing just 3 runs and the Giants offense received hits from Makayla Mann (1), Grace Turner (1), Andi Zannis (1), Elsie Lowery (3B), Kinley Sebert (1), Laney Little (1) and Calee Guin (2) to drive in their 5 runs in the 5-3 win.
In the Giants next bracket play elimination game they matched up with Athletics Mercado. The 7-0 win moved the Giants on to face the Birmingham Mustangs.
In their quarter final game with the Mustangs, Grace Turner and Makayla Mann allowed just 2 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 2 and the Giants offense pounded out 8 of their own (Kinley Sebert (1), Kate Flannagan (1), Marilyn Hayes (2B), Paige Bradshaw (2B, HR), Laney Little (2) and Calee Guinn (HR)) as the Giants rolled into the semi finals with an 8-0 win.
The win set up a rematch with the 2029 Birmingham Thunderbolts. After leading for the entire game, the Giants fell victim to a few late innings misques and the Bolts grabbed a 6-5 win. Marilyn Hayes allowed 7 hits over 5 innings and just 1 earned run and the Giants offense out hit the Bolts 9 to 7 on hits from Grace Turner (2), Andi Zannis (2, HR), Marilyn Hayes (1), Laney Little (2), and Calee Guinn (2) but it was not enough and the Giants finished 3rd over all in Turf Wars.
