The Birmingham Lady Giants dropped a hard fought contest with the 2014 World Series champions 7-6 on a walk off 2 out, 2 run double.
Led by strong pitching from Olivia (bob) Renta (2 2\3 innings 5k, 3r) the giants who fell behind 3-1 after the first inning, battled back to take a 6-4 lead going into the last inning, fueled by an all around team effort.
This was the first ever game for the Lady Giants in their first season, which included several first for the team. First hit, Lauren (sparky) Cabiness , first run scored Abby Kellogg , first putout Hadley (gadget) Andrews, first RBI Elizabeth (shocker) Wheat. “It was a very encouraging start” said Head coach Kiley Barton, “we did a lot of good things” . The Lady Giants now begin to prepare for the 2nd scrimmage withe the Fury from Helena.
