The Birmingham Lady Giants in their inaugural season has amassed 26 wins, leaving them 3 short of the hallowed ground of the club record set by the 2011-12 Birmingham Giants, (then known as the Bombers) of 29 (29-5).
With 3 more wins in the USFA state tournament (finishing 4th) the Lady Giants moved within reach of the club record for most wins in a season, with 2 tournaments to go. The 2011-12 boys team, a team known for their pitching prowess, boasted a pitching staff that included Tanner(taco) Stinett (Bess Academy), David(Hopi) Hopkins (Gardendale), Mikey McGuire (St Clair), Mike (Ham) Eggerton (Pinson), Max Garvey (Hoover),and Olin Steffan (Brookwood) a staff that set club records for Innings Pitched, K’s season, wins, Saves, and Opp Batting Average, and pick offs in a season, game and Tournament, and tossed 1 no hitter and beating the likes of the Northport Yankees, Gardendale Rockets, EC Yankees, Montgomery Rays and CABA Blaze along the way, 2 of their 5 loses came against East Alabama baseball.
Offensively, the 2011 Giants were lead by club record 5 home runs from Tanner Stinett, and a line up that boasted 9 players that have gone on to play school ball, 2 on varsity as underclassmen. The 2 remaining Giants from that team, Jamie Rainer, who started his most games played record that season,(currently 95) and Mikey McGuire are still regulars in the Giants line up.
The record seems certain to fall, as the lady Giants (7-3 in last 10) have 2 state tournaments left with NSA, and need just 3 wins for the record. The Lady Giants have won 4 tournaments this season. A full recap of their state tournament run will be released later in the week.
