The Saturday showcase/camp for the Birmingham Giants at Birmingham Southern College, run by Coach Kimball Cassady was a big hit among players, coaches and parents of the Birmingham Giants.
The nearly 4 hours spent with the Lady Giants working on fundamentals, and game skills, as well as answering important questions and relating information the Lady Giants will need as they continue to move forward created a saturday morning that was extremely productive. Coach Kiley Barton of the 02 Lady Giants said ” We want to thank Coach Cassady and her staff for taking the time to host us at her facility, and working and talking with our girls. It gave our girls a chance to be seen and interact at a great college and with a great coach, and for them to hear the information she gave them was out standing, we thank her so much and are looking forward to the next one!”
The Lady Giants are entering their second season of play, with the start of the fall season. The 02 team, returned every player and with a few Giants that were moved to the 01 team, had a few additions that will help the 02 lady Giants be very competitive this season. As always the pitching and catching are the Giants strength, and the return of 24 game winner Olivia “Bob” Renta, and the additions of Blakley Burr, and Chylynn Barnhill, and the progress of Closer Ka’Mya Hampton, paired with their battery mates, Kim Livingston and Lauren Cabiness should make for a formidable start to a great defensive team, that includes Mollie Freeman, Hadley Andrews, Elizabeth Wheat, Kinley Hall. The first tournament for the 02 Giants is August 23rd in Gadsden.
In their first season together the 01 Lady Giants moved up 4 regulars to the 01 team including Abby Kellogg, Emily Shirley, Cassi Williams and Maci Harris, to go with new pitchers Lanie Dreyer, Haley Lang, Skylar Street, and fielders Tori Layfield, Sarah Moore, and Jessie Morales. A strong pitching staff and a great middle infield should help the 01 Lady Giants be very competitive in the fall season and
going forward. The first tournament for the 01 Giants is Sept 6 in Boaz.
