The Birmingham 15u Giants kicked off their fall season at Montevallo High School on Sunday with a double header against the 15u Caba Baseball team.
In Game 1 The Birmingham Giants fell behind after the first inning 3-1, but battled their way back to a 5-5 tie in the 6 inning affair. Giants Pitchers toed the line after the first inning allowing just 2 more runs in the final 5 innings. Quenton Kersey worked the first 2 innings allowing just 2 earned runs, followed by Noah Hathorns 2 scoreless innings, and Mikey McGuire, who allowed just 1 earned run through 2 innings. Offensively the Giants pounded out 6 Hits (Mikey McGuire 3-3, Queton Kersey 1-2, Noah Hathorn 1-3, Jamie Rainer 1-2) while drawing 5 walks. Defensivly, a double play from Joey Schram-Stone Favrot-Noah Hathorn, lead the way in a game that Giants pitchers allowed just 4 hits.
Game 2 was started by new Giant, Ben Jackson (2i, 4k 3er) , followed by 2 scoreless innings by Joey Schramm, and a scoreless inning by Hunter Garcia. The Giants mounted a 6 hit attack (Charles Cobb 1-3, Noah Hathorn 1-2, Mikey McGuire 1-2, Quenton Kersey 1-2, Joey Schramm 1-2, Ben Jackson 1-3) while drawing 7 walks, and stranding the winning runs on base in the last inning, losing 5-4
Defensively the Giants were lead by a sparkling leaping catch on a line drive, which turned into a double play by Jamie Rainer. The Giants will play at Faulkner Univ on Sept 14th.
