Combined No Hitter leads the Birmingham Giants to 3rd.

The 02 Birmingham Giants Kicked off their fall season Saturday in Gadsden, with a 2-2 start. Pitching and defense again lead the way, as the Giants surrendered just 12 runs in the 4 games, while scoring 20.

In Game 1, the Giants faced off against Rampage, and jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning, and coasted to a 7-3 victory. Olivia”Bob” Renta worked 2 scoreless innings on her way to her first victory of the season. Blakley Burr finished the game on the mound, making her first pitching performance as a Giant. Offensively the Giants were lead by Chy “Chicken” Barnhill (1-2, 3B), who tripled in her first At Bat as a Giant, Hadley “Bambi” Andrews (2-2), Kim Livingston (1-1), Kinley Hall (1-1), Elizabeth “Shockey” Wheat (1-1).

Game 2 featured the Giants matching up against the Pacers. Jumping out to an early 2-0 lead on a 2 RBI single from Ka’Mya Hampton, the Giants were unable to hold the lead in the bottom of the inning, giving up 4 runs and a deficit they would not recover from. Offensively the Giants were lead by Chy Barnhill (1-2), Lauren Cabiness (1-1),and  Ka’Mya Hampton (1-1), but the Giants fell 4-2.

In the First game of bracket play, the Giants face off against a Vortex Extreme team from Vestavia.  A 6 run first inning helped the Giants coast to an 11-1 Victory. Making her first start on the Mound, Chy “Chicken” Barnhill became the 3rd Giants pitcher in team history to record a No Hitter in her first start, and the 6th in team history, 4th in the last year for the Lady Giants., The No Hitter was a combined no hitter, as Blakley  Burr worked the final 2 Hitless innings to complete the no-no. Offensively the Giants were lead by Chy Barhill (2-3), Hadley Andrews (2-2), Lauren Cabiness (1-3), Ka’Mya Hampton (2-3), Kim Livingston (1-3 3b), Mollie Freeman (2-2), Blakely Burr (1-2, First Hit as a Giant), Elizabeth Wheat (1-2), and Lanie Dreyer (1-2 3B, First hit as a Giant).

 

In the Semifinal game of Bracket play, the Lady Giants again faced off with the Pacers, and Offensively the Giants stranded 8 runners, 6 in scoring position and lost 4-0. Hits from Chy Barnhill, Kim Livingston and Mollie Freeman were not enough to help the Giants advance. Lanie Dreyer, made her Giants pitching debut, pitching a scoreless inning.
