The 2014 fall season kicked for the 01 Birmingham Lady Giants as the curtain raised on their inaugural season Saturday against the chaos .
Skylar Street made the first start for the 01 Giants, going 2 innings, allowing just 1 hit, and 2 runs, and Lanier dreyer finished the final innings of the 4-4 tie. Offensively the Giants, were lead by Lanier Dreyer (2-2), who notched the first hit in Giants 01 history, a double in the left field corner, Tori Layfield (1-2), Cassi Williams (1-2), and Kiley Holland (1-2), which powered the Giants last inning comeback to a 4-4 tie.
For the second game of pool play, the Giants faced off with Outkast in a defensive contest. Haley Lang went 2 strong innings in her first start as a Lady Giant, and Lanie Dreyer pitched the final inning as the Giants fell to the Outkast 2-1. Hits from Jessie Morales, Lanie Dreyer and Haley Lang were not enough as the lady Giants stranded 6 runners. Sarah Grace more made several nice running catches in centerfield for the Giants.
In their first game of Bracket play, the 01 Giants faced the Chaos again, and in a game that went back and forth, the Giants came up on the short end of a 8-6 score. After trailing early 3-0, the Giants battled back to take a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the last inning, but were unable to hold the lead, and fell 8-6. A 7 hit attack paced the Giants, (Jessie Morales (2), Maci Harris (1 double), Lanie Dreyer (1), Skylar Street (1), Kiley Holland (1) ) as the Giants out hit the chaos 7-5 in defeat.
The 01 Lady Giants play in Trussville on sept 13.
