The Birmingham Lady Giants dropped 2 1 run games, (4 of 6 losses have been by 1 run) and fell to 0-3 in the Gadsden tournament on saturday.
In game 1, starting pitcher Skylar Street worked 2.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, and the Giants fell 3-0. Offensively the Giants were lead by Cassi Williams with 2 hits, Maci Harris (1), Sara Moore (1). The opponent was the 00/01 mixed team, the strikers.
In Game 2, the second pool play game, Lanie Dryer, made her start on the mound against the Scorchers, going 3 Innings, striking out 4, and
allowing 3 earned runs in the 3-2 loss. Hits from Sara Moore (1), Lanie Dryer (1), Maci Harris (1, 3b), Tori Layfield (1), and Skylar Street (1) were not enough as the Giants stranded 7 runners and came up on the short end of a 3-2 score.
The first game of bracket play, the Giants again faced the Scorchers. Haley Lang made her 3rd start of the season, and registered her 3rd Quality start of the season, going 3 innings allowing just 3 hits and 2 earned runs, and leaving with a 3-3 tie going to the last inning. Despite a lead off single the Giants failed to score, and in the bottom of the final inning, the scorchers did, leading to another 1 run loss for the 01 giants. Hits from Jessie Morales (1), Maci Harris (1), Lanie Dryer (1)Haley Lang (1), Skylar Styreet (1), and Sara Moore (1),6 in total, as the Giants out hit the scorchers, 6-3, but aain stranded 6 and fell 4-3.
The Lady Giants are off to a 2-6-1 start, however 5 of the losses have been by 1 run, and 3 have been in the opponents last atbat. The 01 Birmingham Lady Giants next play on Oct0ber 4th in Cullman.
