The Birmingham Giants 15U baseball team went 1-0-1 at Falkner Univ. in Montgomery on sunday against the 14-15 Alabama Rays to push their record to 5-2-3 on the fall season.
In Game 1 of the double header, the Giants fell behind early 5-1 after 2 innings, but battled back to a 7-7 tie. Hits from Ben Jackson, Noah Hathorn, Joey Schramm, and Ethan Thrasher, who’s triple gave him the all time club lead in triples with 6. The Giants struggled with walks through out the game, and in the bottom of the 6th, Noah Hathorn entered the game in relief with runners on first and third and no outs, and the winning run on third, and retired the Rays on a strike out, a pop up and a pop out to Hunter Garcia at third and the Giants left with a tie. Tyler Miller handled 5 ground balls to lead the defense.
In Game 2, the Giants again fell behind 4-1 but erupted for 3 runs in the 5th and 2 runs in the 6th to gain the 6-4 victory. Offensively the Giants were lead by, Noah Hathorn, Ben Jackson (HR), Ethan Thrasher (2b), Joey Schramm, and Stone Favrot. Noah Hathorn worked the final 3 innings, allowing no hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1, and no runs to earn the victory. The go ahead run was scored by Quenton Kersey after stealing second.
The 15u Giants play next at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, a double header against Grip and Rip, games will start at 1 and 3.
