Birmingham Giants Lanie Dreyer No Hits Outkast, GIants finish 4th

Lanie Dreyer threw the 9th no hitter in Giants history on Saturday in Hueytown and Taylor Dawkins went 4-4 with 3 extra base hits as the Birmingham Giants 01 finished 4th.

In their opening game of pool play the Giants faced a Non-Aged up Outkast team. Lanie Dreyer face just 10 batters in 3 innings, striking out 5 of the 9 outs enrout to her no hit shut out, and near perfect game , winning 2-0 over the”OutKAst”, as only 2 hitters reached base, both on errors, and 1 was called out for leaving the base early.

Hits from Maci Harris (1), Skylar Street (1), and a double in her first official at bat as a Giant that scorched an outfield playing way to close by Taylor Dawkins were all the hits the Giants needed.

 

In their second pool play game the Giants faced off with a well coached Gardendale Crush team. The Giants fell behind 1-0 early, in the eventual 4-1 loss.  Lanie Dreyer started the game and pitched the first 2 1/3 innings befor being relieved by Skylar Street, who pitched the final 1 2/3 innings allowing just 1 run while striking out 1.

Offensively the Giants  were lead by Sarah Moore (1), and Taylor Dawkins (1,2b) and defensively Turner Cole and Cassi Williams recorded 3 assists, but it was not enough as the Giants fell 4-1.

In their first bracket play game, the Giants again faced a Non-aged up “Outkast” team, and for 21/3 innings Hannah Murcia dominated them, striking out 5, but the Giants gave the light hitting “Outkast” team 9 unearned runs in the 3rd inning, and fell 10-2. Lanie Dreyer came in to record the last 2 outs of the game.

Offensively the Giants were led by Taylor Dawkins (2,3b), Lanie Dreyer (2,2b), Maci Harris (1, 2b), Skylar Street (1),  and Cassi Williams (1), as the Giants again torched the “Outkast” outfielders,but the 9 unearned runs to a team that could not have scored them otherwise did the Giants in.

The loss concluded the Giants first season together, finishing 7-13-2, and as the chemistry grows and the right pieces get into place the team continues to improve.
