The 03 Birmingham Giants continued a strong start to their spring 2015 campaign with an 11-5 victory over the 03 White Lightning in Hoover on Saturday , running their spring training record to 3-0.
Coach Steven Rowe’s 03 Birmingham Giants came out in the top of the first and as has become their trademark, attacked the ball and scored 2 runs, and added another in the top of the third, to take a 3-0 lead. Surrendering 4 unearned runs in the bottom of the 4th, white lightning 03 to a 5-3 lead. The Giants then responded with 4 in the 5th and 4 more in the 6th to seal the victory, 11-5.
Julia Petty(3-0) picked up her 3rd victory of the spring, working 3 scoreless innings (3I, 4k, 2 hits, 0bb), and Chy Barnhill worked 2 inning giving up 1 earned run.
Offensively ly the Giants were led by Chy Barnhill (2), Reese Lowery (1, 2b), Elissa Glaze (2), Kailey Hicks (1), Ali King (1), Piper Lowery (1), Julia Petty (2), Abbie Warnick (1), Whitney Goodwin (1), and Krista Glaze (1), who picked up her first hit in a Giants uniform.
Defensively the Giants turned a good effort, with great plays turned in by Krista Glaze, and a caught stealing from Kailey Hicks.
