The Birmingham 03 Giants finished their tournament in Fultondale on Saturday at 1-2, 8-2 on the season.
In game 1 of pool play, the Giants took on Alabama Elite, for the first time this season. Jumping on the Elite early for a 6 run first inning, and coasted to an 11-6 win. Chy Barnhill won her 3rd game of the season, and Whitney Goodwin turned in a good defensive effort behind the plate for the victorious Giants, offensively the Giants were lead by Chy Barnhill (1), Reese Lowery (1), Elissa Glaze (1), Ali King (1), Lauren Dill (1).
In their second game of pool play, the Giants took on the twisters. In a game that went to the 4th inning at 1-0, several Giant misque’s raised the final score to 9-0. Julia Petty went the distance in her first loss of the season.
Elissa Glaze picked up her first of 2 triples on the day, and hits from Chy Barnhill, and Lauren Dill were all the Giants could muster.
After finishing pool play at 1-1, seeding first in the silver bracket, the Giants faced off with Alabama Thunder.
Chy Barnhill made the start in the Circle and was relieved by Julia Petty. The Giants fell behind 2-0, only to storm back to a 3-2 lead going into the third, but a 6 run 3rd inning put them behind 8-3. The 03 Giants continued to fight, only to come up on the short end of an 8-6 loss, just their second of the year.
At the plate the Giants received hits from Chy Barnhill (2), Elissa Glaze 1(3b), Lauren Dill (1), Piper Lowery (1), Julia Petty (1), Abbie Warnick (1), Krista Glaze (1), who reached base 4 times in 5 at bats for the tournament.
The 03 Birmingham Giants will next play in Chelsea on March 28.
