The Birmingham Giants 02 kicked off their season playing in 4, 1 run games, winning 1 in USFA in Gardendale on Saturday, losing twice to the pacers, 2-1 and 4-3.
In game 1, the Giants faced off with the Pacers, a team they have played 4 other times, all 1 run games with over the last year. Blakely Burr started the first game, going 4 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 earned run in the loss. A Double from Elissa Glaze and hits from Kinley Hall and Blakely Burr were all the hits the Giants offense could muster and the Giants fell 2–1.
In their first game of double elimination play, the Giants faced off with the Sidewinders. The Giants Ka’Mya Hampton pitched 2 scoreless innings, but Giants relief surrendered the one rune of the game on a scorched double, and the Giants fell for the second time by 1 run. Hadley Andrews had the only hit for the Giants.
Falling to the Losers bracket, the Giants were set to take on the mustangs. Blakely Burr (1-1) pitched 5 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 1 earned runs in the win. Hits from Hadley Andrews, Lauren Cabiness, Elissa Glaze and a RBI from new comer Kiley Cordell, who drove in the winning run was all the Giants needed in the 3-2 win, and another date with the Pacers.
Giants pitching allowed 4 runs in the 5 inning affair, and Giants hitters tallied 4 hits, (Mollie Freeman, Alli Parker (2b), Blakely Burr (2b) and surrendered a 2 run final inning lead, losing out 4-3 to end their weekend.
The Giants play next at Liberty Park on Saturday.
