The Birmingham Giants 03 finished third, losing a 1 run semi final game 8-7 on Saturday in Trussville .
The Giants first pool play game was against the Jaguars 03. Kadence Ward (1-1) started the game, pitching 2 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 2 runs, and Julia Petty closed out the final 2 innings in the 7-2 win. Hits from Chy Barnhill (3), Reese Lowery (1), Ali King (1), Kailey Hicks (1), and Kadence Ward were all the Giants offense needed to put 7 runs on the board.
In Game 2 of pool play the 03 Giants took on the 03 White Lightning, an organization the Giants hold an all time record of 7-0-1 record against. 3 First inning runs off of Giants pitcher Chy Barnhill (8-3), put white lightning ahead 3-1 after the first inning. White Lightning then scored 3 more in the second to take a 6-1 lead, the Giants battled back for 3 of their own in the 3rd inning, but came up on the short end of a 6-4 score, the Giants first ever loss to a White Lightning team.
Offensively the Giants were led by Chy Barnhill (1), Ali King (1), and Krista Glaze (1). The loss dropped the Giants 03 to 1-1 in pool Play and the second seed overall.
In their first game of bracket play, the Giants faced off the Red Storm. 6 first inning runs from Red Storm, put the Giants down 6-2 after the first inning. Julia Petty (9-5) took over in the circle in the second inning, and allowed just a single hit over the next 3 innings, while striking out 6, but a late run defeated the Giants 8-7, and for a second straight weekend, the Giants finished 3rd, and a 21-9-1 record on the season.
Offensively the Giants battled back from a 6-0 start after the top of the first, behind hits from Chy Barnhill (2), Reese Lowery (1, 2b), Kailey Hicks (2), Abbie Warnick (1), Piper Reese (1), Julia Petty (2), Krista Glaze (1), and an RBI ground out from Whitney Goodwin.
The Giants 03 are off this weekend.
