For the second straight week, the Birmingham Giants 02 finished 5th, posting a 1-2 record. Despite pitching well, the Giants continued to struggle offensively, stranding 20 runners in the 3 games, losing 2–1 and 3-1, while winning 14-1 over Freedom Fast Pitch.
In Game 1 of pool play the Giants faced off with the Cobras. Blakely Burr 4 strong innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 earned run in the loss, while striking out 3. Offensively the Giants managed only 3 hits, (Hadley Andrews(1,2b), Lauren Cabiness (1), and Mollie Freeman (1) and stranded 6 in the 2–1 loss.
In game 2 of pool play, Ka’Mya Hampton started the game, allowing just 1 hit, and 2 walks in her 2nd victory of the season, as the Giants scored a season high 14 runs, earning a 2nd seed heading into bracket play. Offensively the Giants posted 15 hits, atleast 1 from every hitter in the lineup, ( Hadley Andrews (2), Lauren Cabiness (1), Elissa Glaze (2,2b), Ka’Mya Hampton (1), Kinley Hall (3), Mollie Freeman (2), Alli Parker (1), Blakely Burr (1), Kim Livingston (1), and Kylie Cordell (1).
In Bracket play the Giants faced off with the Jags. The Giants managed just 1 hit (Hadley Andrews) and stranded 8 Runners , and lost 3-1. Alli Parker started the game in the Circle and Blakely Burr closed out the final 2 innings in the loss.
Despite playing well, the Giants fell to a 2-5 mark to start the season. They play next in Oxford on saturday.
