Glaze Hits 2, Hampton tosses No Hitter as 02 Birmingham Giants Roll

The 02 Birmingham Giants ran their season record to 12-5, winning their second straight tournament behind a 2 home runs (both out of the park) from Elissa Glaze and a No Hitter from Ka’Mya Hampton (her second as a Giant), and Blakely Burr’s back to back shut outs (4 earned runs in her last 29 innings), winning 5 straight games.

In game 1, the 02 Giants faced off with the Renegades.  In a hard fought 2-0 win, the Giants Blakely Burr (5-2), tossed her first shut out of the day, allowing just 1 hit, while striking out 5. Offensively the Giants managed just 4 hits, Hadley Andrews (1,2b), Elissa Glaze (1), Kinley Hall (1), and Kim Livingston (1) but it was enough for the 2-0 win.

Ka’Mya Hampton(4-0) took the circle in Game 2 against the Red Storm and fired her second no hitter as a Giant, (the 15th in Club History) striking out 5, as the Giants cruised to a 16-1 win.  9 Giant hits powered the 16 run outburst, with 2 from Hadley Andrews, Lauren Cabiness (1), Elissa Glaze (1), Ka’Mya Hampton (1), Kinley Hall (1,2b), Kim Livingston (1), and Kylie Cordell (1).

 

In Game 3, the Giants again faced off with the Renagades, this time putting up 10 runs on 9 hits, drawing 6 walks along the way. Hits from Lauren Cabiness (2,2b), Elissa Glaze (2), Ka’Mya Hampton (1), Kinley Hall (2), Kim Livingston (1), and Kylie Cordell (1). Alli Parker pitched all 4 innings in the circle for the Giants enroute to her 2nd win of the year.

This time Blakely Burr worked 3 innings of 1 hit ball, allowing no runs for her second shut out of the day and 5th win of the year. An 8 run 2nd inning helped the Giants roll to a 12-0 win, and a birth in the finals.

At the Plate, hits from Hadley Andrews (1), Lauren Cabiness (1), Elissa Glaze (1), Ka’Mya Hampton (1,2b), Mollie Freeman (1), Blakely Burr (1), and Kylie Cordell (1) helped the Giants roll to the 12-0 win and a birth in the finals for the second straight week.

 

In the finals, Ka’Mya Hampton, pitching in her first ever championship game, shook off an early first inning run, to allow just 1 hit the rest of the way for the win, while striking out 5.

The 02 Giants begin their show case schedule this Saturday at Shelton State against Going Yard.
