The 01 Birmingham Giants for the second straight week finished 3rd, this time in Gadsden. This was the 4th tournament for the 01 Giants, of which they have place 3rd or above each time, amassing a 10-5 record on the season.
In game 1 0f pool play, the Giants faced off with an Evolution team, 8 first inning runs, and 11 total led the Giants to an 11-1 win. Sydney Chamness started the game in the circle, going all 3 innings, striking out 4 for her 3rd win of the season.
Cassi Williams led off reaching on a bunt and Kennedy Jackson hit her 2nd Home Run of the season, hits from Tori Layfield (1), Mollie Peoples (1), Skylar Street (2), Sydney Chamness (2), Francis Fowler (1), Maci Harris (1,3b), Taylor Dawkins (1), and Allison Roberson (1) led the way to the 11 run outburst.
In game 2 of pool play, the Giants fell behind 2-1, after the first inning, and then tied it at 2 after 3 innings, but 2 last inning runs beat the Giants 4-2. Skylar Street pitched all 4 innings, striking out 3, in the loss. Hits from Tori Layfield (1), Sydney Chamness (1), Francis Fowler (1), and Turner Cole(1) were all the Giants managed, stranding 5 in defeat.
In their first game of Bracket play, after seeding 2nd, the Giants held a 3-0 lead after the top of the 3rd, but surrendering 4 runs in the bottom half of the inning put the Giants down 4-3. A single, and 2 stolen bases moved Kennedy Jackson to 3rd with 1 out, but the Giants were unable to push that run across and fell 4-3. Skylar Street (1), and Sydney Chamness (1), had the only other hits for the Giants.
Sydney Chamness started the game in the circle, and Skylar Street closed out the game, allowing just 3 hits between them in the loss.
