The 03 Birmingham Giants notched their 5th tournament win of the season, picking up their 28th win of the season, (1 short of the 2nd best win total in Giants history, (boys 29-5) and 4 short of the all time record (32) set by The 02 Giants last spring. Julia Petty eclipsed the old single season girls mark , striking her 88th hitter on the season to end the 3rd inning of the championship game. Giants catcher Kailey Hicks turned in a day for the ages behind the plate, picking off or catching runners attempting to steal 6 times.
In game 1 of pool play, the Giants suffered their only defeat of the day, dropping their first game 4-3 to the patriots. Julia Petty pitched all 4 innings, notching 6 strike outs in 4 innings, allowing just a single hit.
Offensively the the Giants were led by Reese Lowery (1), Ali King (1, 3b), Piper Lowery (1), and Julia Petty (1).
In game 2 of pool play the Giants took on the Jags from Chilton Alabama. Chy Barnhill pitched 3 innings, allowing just 2 hits, enroute to the win. Every Giant recorded atleast 1 hit in the game, ( Chy Barnhill 1, Reese Lowery 1, Ali King 1,3b, Lauren Dill 2, Kailey Hicks 1, Abbie Warnick 2, 3b, Krista Glaze 1, Piper Lowery 1,2b, Julia Petty 1, and Kadence Ward 1), as the Giants cruised to an 11-0 win. Kailey hicks threw out 3 of her 6 in this game, including 2 pick offs at 2nd.
In the first game of bracket play the Giants faced off with Jags again. After trailing early 4-0, the Giants rallied for a 7-6 win. Julia Petty struck out 6 more, while walking 2. Hits from Chy Barnhill (1), Lauren Dill (1), Abbie Warnick (1), Krista Glaze (1), Piper Lowery (2, 2b), Julia Petty (2,2b), and Kadence Ward (1). Kailey Hicks got 1 more runner in this game for her 4th on the day.
The Giants advanced to face off with Killin Time 03. Julia Petty continued her big day, tossing the clubs 17th No Hitter and her 2nd as a Giant, striking 5 along the way for the 3-0 win. Kailey Hicks got her 5th runner in this game, and hits from Chy Barhill (1), Reese Lowery (1,2b), Lauren Dill (2), Kailey Hicks (1), and Abbie Warnick (1). The win moved the Giants into the Championship game against the Shockers.
In the championship game, the Giants for the first time in their history took on the shockers. After leading 4-0 after 2, the Giants put up 6 3rd inning runs, enroute to a 10-1 win. Julia Petty struck her 88th hitter on the season, and Kailey Hicks caught her 6 runner on the day, and 2 outstanding catches from Krista Glaze and Piper Lowery powered the Giants defense. For the second time Saturday, every Giant hitter recorded atleast 1 hit ( Chy Barhill 1, Reese Lower 2,2b, Ali King 2,2b, Lauren Dill 1, Kailey Hicks 1,2b, Abbie Warnick 1, Krista Glaze 1, Piper Lowery 1, Julia Petty 2,2b, and Kadence Ward 1).
The Giants record now stands at 28-14-2 for the season.
