01 and 02 Birmingham Lady Giants play first ever double header showcase

The Birmingham Giants 01 and 02 teams played their first ever double header showcase at Shelton state, playing against the Crush and Going Yard 02 respectively . It a format that is unique to the Giants organization, and one the Giants boys teams pioneered, the Lady Giants got their first exposure in that type of venue.

The 01 Lady Giants took on the Gardendale Crush 14u team for their double header. In Game 1 of the double header the Giants started Skylar Street in the Circle, allowing just 3 earned runs over her innings of work followed by Sydney Chamness, who gave up just 2 hits and 1 run in her innings of work. 4 first inning runs put the Giants behind early and they were never able to catch up , falling 6-1. Taylor Dawkins made a great running catch in left field, and Francis Fowler recorded 5 assist. Offensively the Giants managed just 4 hits, Cassi Williams (1), Skylar Street(1), Sydney Chamness (1), and Maci Harris (1,2b).

In Game 2, Skylar Street again started for the 01 Giants, followed by Sydney Chamness in the 9-4 loss. Offensively the Giants were led by Cassi Williams (1,3b), Sydney Chamness (1,2b), Allison Roberson (1,3b,), and Tori Layfield(1). The 01 Birmingham Giants are now 10-7 on the season.

Coach Kiley Barton’s 02 Birmingham Giants played their 2 pool play games against the Going Yard 02 team from Hayden Alabama. In game 1, Blakely Burr started off for the Giants and worked 3 scoreless innings striking out 2, she has now allowed just 4 earned runs in 34 innings this season. Ka’Mya Hampton followed behind her with 2 more scoreless innings, striking out 2. Offensively the Giants were led by Elissa Glaze (1,3b), Mollie Freeman (1,2b), and Blakely Burr (1). Lauren Cabiness also threw out 2 runners stealing to end any threats and the Giants won 5-0.

In game 2, the Giants started Ka’Mya Hampton in the Circle, who worked the first 2 innings and was relieved by Alli Parker, who closed the game with 3 scoreless innings. Hadley Andrews and Kylie Cordell scored twice, and hits from Elissa Glaze (2), Ka’Mya Hampton (1,3b), Kinley Hall (1), Mollie Freeman (1,2b), Alli Parker (1), and Blakely Burr (2). The Giants offense pushed 9 runs across the plate in the 9-2 win. The 02 Giants are now 14-5 on season, and are winners of 12  straight games
