The Birmingham Giants 15u finished 4th at the rain shortened NABF super region showcase at Hind College, Millsaps College, and Belhaven Univ.
In Game 1 of pool play the Giants faced off with East Coast Baseball for the first time in its history. Ethan Thrasher pitched 6 strong innings, striking out 6, while walking just 1 for the 5-2 win. Offensively the Giants were led by Charles Cobb (1), Mikey McGuire (2), Marshall Clark (1,2b), Noah Hathorn (1),and Gaitlin Roberson (1,3b)
In Game 2 of their pool play, the 15u Giants were matched up with one of the Mississippi Golden Spikes, and despite out hitting the spikes 3 to 2 behind a great outing from Marshall Clark on the mound, 4 innings, 6 strike outs, 1 Hit, 2 unearned runs did the Giants in 2-0. Hits came from Marshall Clark (1), Mikey McGuire (1) and Noah Hathorn (1). On the bases Mikey McGuire stole 2 more bases, giving him 5 in the 2 games he would finish with 7 for the tournament. Defensively, Joey Schramm made some outstanding plays in the field to keep the Spikes off the bases.
The final exhibition game against the 96ers before bracket play began, Noah Hathorn pitched 3 innings 3 runs on 3 hits and Gaitlin Roberson finished it up, as the Giants fell 5-2. Offensively the Giants were lead by Charles Cobb (1), Mikey McGuire (1), Ethan Thrasher (1), Joey Schramm (1), and Tyler Miller(1). This was the last game played in the tournament for the Giants as they were rained out, after seeding and eventually finishing 4th with a pool play record of 1-1.
The Giants play in the East Coast Showcase at Samford Univ this weekend.
