Birmingham Giants go 1-0-1 on Giants Day at Rickwood Field

On the second annual Giants day at Rickwood Field in Birmingham Alabama, the oldest continually operating baseball field in America and the filming site of the Movies 42, and the Natural, the Birmingham  Giants went 1-0-1 against the Grip and Rip Academy from Huntsville Academy, tying the first game 5-5, and winning the second 7-5.

Using 3 pitchers, the Giants started with Ethan Thrasher, who pitched the first 2 innings, striking out 2, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits. Mikey McGuire took over in the 3rd, pitching 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit, while striking out 2. Ben Jackson closed out the game pitching the final 3 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits .

Offensively the Giants  pounded 7 hits, including 2 from Charles Cobb, Ethan Thrasher (1), Brock Shafer(1), Noah HatHorn (1), Stone Favrot(1), and Jamie Rainer (1). The Giants also stole 14 bases, Charles Cobb (3), Mikey McGuire (2), Marshall Clark (3), Brock Shafer (2), Noah Hathorn (2), Stone Favrot (1), and Jamie Rainer (2).

In Game 2, the Giants trailed 3-2 for most of the game, until a 5 run 6th inning broke the game open and led the Giants to a 7-5 win.  Noah Hathorn worked a scoreless first inning, and was relieved in the second by Hunter Garcia, who allowed just 1 hit and 1 run over his 2innings of work. In the 4th Marshall Clark took over on the hill, pitching the next 2 innings, allowing just 1 earned run on 2 hits, while striking out 1. Joey Schramm closed out the last inning for the save.

Offensively the Giants were led by Charles Cobb (1), Brock Shafer (1), Mikey McGuire (2), Ethan Thrasher (1), Marshall Clark (1), Noah Hathorn (1), Gaitlin Roberson (1), and Joey Schramm (1). The Giants also stole 10 more bases, Charles Cobb (3), Brock Shafer (3), Mikey McGuire (2), Joey Schramm (1), Gaitlin Roberson (1) and Jamie Rainer (1).

The win moved the Giants to a 4-5-3 record on the season, heading to their next showcase at Snead State on the 26th of June.
