The 15u Birmingham Giants completed their Snead State Showcase competition this weekend, playing primarily 16/17U teams. The Giants pitched extremely well all weekend, getting 4 quality starts and 2 complete games from their starters, all 4 starting pitchers lasted into the 5th inning. The Giants schedule went as follows: Power House 16/17u, Slammers 16/17u, OMBC 16, and The A’s 16/17u.
In the first game, the Giants faced off with the Power House Training 16/17 team. Ethan Thrasher tossed a complete game 8-3 win, striking out 5, allowing just 3 hits and 1 earned run. At the plate, hits from Mikey McGuire (1), (2 SB), Marshall Clark (2, 2B), Tyler Miller(1),Hunter Garcia (1) and Ben Jackson (1) 1 SB) helped drive in the 8 Giants Runs in the victory.
In Game 2, the Giants matched up with the 16/17 Slammers from Hewitt Trussville/Pinson. Mikey McGuire started the game on the mound, pitching 5 innings, striking out 8, and allowing just 4 hits and 1 earned run. Ben Jackson pitched the final 2 innings of the 5-3 loss.Hits from Mikey McGuire (1) (2 SB), Joey Schramm (1) and Jamie Rainer (1) (1 SB) were all the Giants could muster. This game was the last of the day on Saturday, leaving the Giants with 2 on sunday.
In Game 3, the first game on Sunday, the Giants were scheduled with the 16/17u Oak Mountain Baseball Club. The Giants took a 1-0 lead into the 3rd on a single by Hunter Garcia, but Oak Mountain came back with 3 unearned in the 3rd inning, and never looked back in the 5-3 win.
Noah Hathorn went 5 innings on the hill, allowing just 4 hits, striking out 4 and allowing just 1 earned run, and Ben Jackson closed out the final inning scoreless for the Giants. At the Plate, the Giants mounted a 9 hit attack, but 2 runners thrown out at the plate and 8 runners stranded cost the Giants the victory. In Game 4 of the weekend for the 15u Giants, they met up with the 16/17u Etowah A’s. Marshall Clark tossed the teams second complete game of the weekend, pitching 7 innings, striking out 3, allowing just 3 hits, and no earned runs in the 2-0 loss. The Giants managed just 1 hit, a lead off single by Mikey McGuire (1), (1 SB), making it tough to surpass the only 2 runs on the board from the A’s in the 2-0 loss.
After a week off, the Giants will travel to southern Miss Univ for their final showcase of the summer.
