The 03 Birmingham Giants picked up where they finished the spring season, winning their first tournament, posting a 3-1 mark.
To start their pool play, the Giants 03 faced off with the Sting. Julia “Tank” Petty came out firing strikes, striking out 6 in 3 inning of work, allowing just 1 hit and 2 runs in her 3 innings of work. The Giants managed just 2 hits, including a 2 run bunt to drive in the winning runs by Krista Glaze and drawing just 1 walk, stranding 6 in the 4-2 win.
In their second pool play, the Giants managed a feat they have accomplished 20 times previously, tossing a no hitter, and for the 3rd time in organization history the lost that no hitter 3-2. Madison allowed no hits, striking out 2 in the Giants only loss of the day. The Giants pounded the bad news babes pitching for 5 hits, but stranded 9 in the loss. Hits from Piper Lowery (2), Ali King (1), Lauren Dill (1), and Abbie Warnick (1, 2b).
In their first game of bracket play, the Giants again were scheduled to play the Sting. Chy Barnhill picked up her first win of the season, tossing 4 shut out innings, allowing just 3 hits, striking out 5. Hits from Ali King (1), Abbie Warnick (1), and a 2 run single from Chy Barnhill, coupled with 4 walks powered the Giants to a 2-0 win, and advanced them to the championship.
In the championship game the Giants again rolled out the Tank, Julia Petty, who in 3 innings of work allowed just 1 hit, 1 run while striking out 5 more, giving her 11 in 6 innings on the day, moving her into first place all time in Lady Giants history, with 143.
Offensively the Giants were led by Reese Lowery(1), Ali King (2, 2b), and Julia Petty (1) and the Giants cruised to a 7-1 win.
The 03 Giants are off this weekend, returning to the field Saturday the 12th.
