16u Birmingham Giants Shine in Debut

For the First time in the Organizations history the Birmingham Giants sent a 16u Softball team on to the field Saturday at the University of Auburn Montgomery. Coached by former Huntingdon player Haether McGuirk and current college players Marissa Osga and Heather Johnston the 16u Birmingham Giants shined in their debut against the 16u Cobras..

16u aumKelsey English hit the 3rd pitch of the fall season for a single and the Giants put 3 runs on the board in the top of the first. Madison Simmons started the game in the circle, going 2 innings for her first win of the season, Kelsey English finished the final 3 innings to preserve the victory. Offensively the Giants were led by Kelsey English (1), Shelby Morgan (2), Kaitlyn Berry (1, 2b), Rachael McKinney (1, 2b), Sabrina Russell (1, 2b), and Klaudia Smith (1).

In the field several great plays helped hold the cobras down, Victoria Rose (RF), Klaudia Smith (2b), and Haley Dennis (ss).

AumaaIn Game 2, the Giants erupted for 12 hits and 16 runs in just 3 innings for the victory. Madison Simmons (2-0) pitched all 3 innings in the circle for the win, and hits from Kelsey English (2), Shelby Morgan (1, 3b), Kaitlyn Berry (2), Rachael McKinney (1, 2b), Sabrina Russell (2), Haley Dennis (1), Alexis Shelton (1), Madison Simmons (1, 2b), and Alexis Griffin (1) led to the 16 runs.

This was the Birmingham Giants first double header showcase of the fall season, the 16u and 01 teams will play saturday at Southern Union College.
