In their second showcase double header of the fall season, coach Heather McGuirk’s 16u Birmingham Giants team earned a split with the 16-18u Chaos at Southern Union College, running their record to 3-1 on the fall season.
In the first game of the double header, the Giants struck first in the first inning for what would be come the eventual winning run, in the 3-0 shut out of the chaos. Maddison Simmons (3-0) worked 4 innings, allowing just 4 hits for the victory, her 3rd of the season, and Kelsey English tossed 2 perfect innings to preserve the win. The Giants mustered 5 hits of their own from Kelsey English (1), Shelby Morgan (1), Kaitlyn Berry (1), Sabrina Russell (1,3b) and Klaudia Smith (1).
In game 2 of the double header the Giants fell behind 3-0 after 3 innings, enroute to the 4-2 defeat, their first loss of the fall campaign. In the Circle Kelsey English pitched the first 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 earned run, and Madison Simmons pitched the final 4 innings, scattering 6 hits while striking out 1. At the plate, Giant hits came from Kelsey English (1), Haley Dennis (2, 1 3b), Victoria Rose (1), and Alexis Griffin(1).
In the field catcher Kaitlyn Berry throw out 4 runners on the day, and Sabrina Russell at Short stop and 3b was involved in 12 outs.
The Giants are off this weekend and will resume their fall campaign at Jacksonville State Univ on October 11th against Synergy.
