The 01 Birmingham Giants broke out their brooms and swept their double header with Chaos 14u Saturday at Southern Union College, winning 16-4 and 10-6, and evening their record at 2-2 for the fall season. The Win in the first game became the 100th on the season for the Giants organization.
In game 1 of the double header Skylar Street earned her first victory of the season, scattering 4 hits, and striking out 2 in 2 innings of work. Francis Fowler closed out the final inning in the 16-4 win. Offensively the Giants were led by Allison Roberson (1), Cassie Williams (2), Turner Cole (1), Sarah Moore (1, 2b), Skylar Street (2), Mattie Lyster (2, 1 2b), Mollie Peoples (1), and Francis Fowler (2).
In game 2, Mattie Lyster made her first start in the circle as a Giant, pitching 2 1/3 and picking up the win, and Skylar Street closed out the game to preserve the win 10-6. Hits from Allison Roberson (1), Sarah Moore (2, 1 2b, 1 3b), Mattie Lyster (2, 1 HR), Maci Harris (1, 2b), and Francis Fowler (1) led the way offensively and a spectacular running catch in the final frame in left field by Taylor Dawkins saved the Giants a couple of runs and ended the Chaos threat.
The 01 Giants are off this weekend and resume play Sunday Oct 11th at Jacksonville State Univ.
