The 11u Birmingham Giants playing in their second tournament since their formation in august finished second, going 2-2.
Carson Berry (1-1)making his second start for the Birmingham Giants 41/3 no hit innings, striking out 3, walking just 1 in the 4-1 victory, and Sylas “Tank” Amick closed out the last inning, striking out 3 for the save. At the plate the Giants were led by Carson Berry (1), Sylas Amick (1), KJ Beck (1), and Gavin Clanton (1, 3b).
In game 2 of pool play, the Giants faced off with the Legends. A 2-2 game with 2 outs in the 4th inning, the Giants inexplicably surrendered 6 runs, and lost 8-2. KJ Beck (1-1) worked 4 2/3 allowing just 2 hits, while striking out 3. The Giants managed just 1 hit, a chopper from Jarod Latta. The loss left the Giants at 1-1 in pool play and the 4 seed going in to bracket play.
Sylas “Tank” Amick (1-1) started the Giants semi Final game, striking out 10 in 4 innings while allowing just 1 hit in the 6-0 win. Hits from Carson Berry (1), Sylas Amick (1), and Kevin Hurley (1). The Giants drew a club record 10 walks , KJ Beck (1), Egan Lowery (2), Kevin Hurley (1), Peyton Jackson (1), Dee Spears (1), Peyton Brendt (1), JB Landrum (1), Jarod Latta (1), and Dez Kemp (1). The win moved the 11u Giants into their first ever championship game.
The first inning in their first championship game saw the Crushers send 10 hitters to the plate, scoring 6 runs on the Giants and jumping to a 6-0 win. After the first inning, the Giants toed the line for 4 innings, finally falling 6-3. Sylas Amick and Dee Spears each worked scoreless relief innings. Offensively the Giants were led by Carson Berry (1), and Kevin Hurley (1) to go along with 8 more walks, 17 in their last 2 games.
The 11u Birmingham Giants are off this week, and return to action next Sunday.
