16u Birmingham Giants open fall with split at the Rick

After 2 rainouts, the Birmingham Giants 16u Baseball club split their fall opener at Rickwood field with the 17-18 Triton Next Level Rays

imageIn game 1, the Giants all time win leader Ethan Thrasher took the hill to start the game working the first 2 innings allowing 3 infield hits and shakey defense led to 4 unearned runs. Mikey McGuire relieved Thrasher in the 3rd, allowing 1 hit and an unearned run in 1.2 innings of work, followed by Ben Jackson, who also allowed 1 hit and 1 unearned run in 2.1 innings of work. Offensively the Giant were led by Charles Cobb (1), and Brock Shaffer (1 , 2b) as they managed only 2 hits and stranded 5 in the 6-2 loss.

In game 2 , starter Noah Hathorn went all 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs, while recording 4 k’s. At the plate the Giants were led by Mikey McGuire (2), Brock Shafer (1), Ethan Thrasher (2), Joey Schramm (1), Tyler Miller (2), Noah Hathorn (1), and RBI’ s from Hunter Garcia, and John brown produced the Giants 6 runs in the 6-5 win.

The Giants play next Oct 10-11 at South West Georgia State.
