Unveiling their new look black out jerseys, the Birmingham Giants after dropping their first game of the day, won 4 straight to roll to the tournament win.
In their first pool play game, the Giants faced off with Z diamonds. After surrendering 6 unearned runs, the Giants came up on the short end of a 7-2 score.
Offensively the Giants were led by Hadley Andrews (1, 2b), Elissa Glaze (1), and Ali Parker (1).
In game 2, after trailing most of the game 3-0, the Giants exploded 4 runs in the final frame to take a 4-3 win. Ali Parker went the distance for the win, and hits from Lauren Cabiness (2), Elissa Glaze (1), Ali King (1, 2b), Kinley Hall (1, 2b), and Blakely Burr (1) led the way for the Giants in the victory over the Psyclones 2020.
In their first bracket play game, the Birmingham Giants 02 squared off with Intensity. Blakely Burr tossed the organizations 22nd no hitter all time, going 5 innings, allowing 3 walks, no hits and no runs. In the final inning, Kiley Cordell made a spectacular running catch in right field to preserve the No Hitter, and advance the Giants to the semi-final game again against Z Diamonds, this time with a different result.
In the semi final game, the Birmingham Giants matched up with the diamonds for the second time, and made all the offensive work they have put in on their approach at the plate paid off. After jumping to an early 2-1 lead, the Birmingham Giants 02 scored 3 more runs, cruising to the 5-3 win.
Blakely Burr went the distance in the overly aggressive contest, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 2. At the plate the Giants received hits from Piper Lowery(1), Lauren Cabiness (2), Elissa Glaze (1), Kinley Hall (1, 2b), and Ali King (2). The win eliminated the Diamonds and propelled the Birmingham Giants into the championship game, for another match up with the Psyclones 2020.
In the championship game, Blakely Burr took charge in the circle, pitching all 4 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 3 runs in the 8-3 win. Hadley Andrews (1), Piper Lowery (1), Lauren Cabiness (1, 2b), Elissa Glaze (1), Kim Livingston (1), Ali King (1), Ali Parker (1), and Kylie Cordell (2) supplied the offense in a 9 hit, 8 run attack in the championship game win.
The Giants will play next at Jacksonville State Univ. next Sunday.
