The Birmingham Giants 11u, just 3 tournaments into their history posted a 4-0 mark and brought home their first championship trophy. Just 1 tournament removed from their second place finish, the Giants out scored their opponents 41-17 over the 4 game span.
In game 1, the Giants were slated to play the Black Sox. After 2 innings the Giants held a slim 2-1 lead, but in the bottom half of the third inning the Giants erupted for 9 Runs, sending 15 runners to the plate. Carson Berry(2-1) started the game on the mound, going 3 strong innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 run, while striking out 3. Deginal Spears followed Berry, working 1 inning, allowing just 1 run and no hits. At the plate the Giants were led by Carson Berry (2), Sylas Amick (1), J.B. Landrum (1), Kevin Hurley (2), Gavin Clanton (1, 2b), and Deginal Spears (1).
K.J Beck(2-1) started game 2, pitching 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 run against the Warriors, before being relieved in the 3rd inning by J.B. Landrum who ended the game on a strike out. At the plate in the first inning, the Birmingham Giants again sent 16 hitters to the box, scoring 12 runs, including the teams first HR over the fence by Sylas “Tank” Amick. Offensively the Giants were led by, Carson Berry (1), Egan Lowery (1), Sylas Amick (1, HR), K.J. Beck (1), Kevin Hurley (1), Gavin Clanton (2), Peyton Jackson (1), Deginal Spears (1), and Jarrod Latta (1, 2b). The win, (15-5) placed the Birmingham Giants as the 1 seed going into bracket play.
After a bye in the first round, the Birmingham Giants again were matched with the Black Sox. Egan”Samurai” Lowery(1-0) started the game on the mound, working 4.1 strong innings, striking out 3, allowing just 1 hit and 2 earned runs, and Sylas Amick came on to record the final 2 outs on strike outs with the tying run in scoring position to preserve the win. At the plate the Giants received hits from Egan Lowery (1), Sylas Amick (2), K.J Beck (1, 2b), Peyton Jackson (1), Kevin Hurley (1), and Gavin Clanton (1), to lead the Giants to the 6-5 win, and for their second straight tournament, a birth in the Championship game.
Sylas “Tank” Amick started the championship game for the Giants, pitching all 4 innings, allowing just 1 hit, while striking out 6, to a team that had hit 5 home runs through out the day. After 2 1/2 innings, the Birmingham Giants trailed 6-2, if not for a great play in left field by Dez Kemp, which kept 2 more runs from scoring. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Giants posted 6 runs on the board to take an 8-6 lead into the last innings, where the Amp team, went 1-2-3 to end the game and the Birmingham Giants 11u had their first tournament win. At the plate, hits from Egan Lowery (1), Sylas Amick (1), and the 2 run go ahead single from Peyton Berendt (1) to go along with 8 walks was enough for the Giant victory.
The Giants are off this weekend, before returning to action on the 17th.
