The Birmingham Giants 11u, playing in their first state tournament in Culman on Sunday . After rolling through their first 2 pool play games,(4-0, 15-3) the Giants also beat their beat bracket play opponent 15-0 to move into the Championship game. The first win of the tournament represented the Giants 300th win all time.
In game 1 of pool play, the Giants Carson Berry (3-1), took the hill against Shoals Havoc, pitching 4 innings of 1 hit, shut out ball, while striking out 7, on his way to his 3rd win of the season, and the Birmingham Giants 300th all time. At the plate Egan Lowery (1), Sylas Amick (2, 22b), and Jarod Latta (1) all recorded hits in the win.
In Game 2 of pool play Jarod Latta (1-0)made his first on the hill for the Giants pitching 2 innings, allowing allowing 2 hits and 2 earned runs, while striking out 3, and Egan Lowery closed out the final inning of the 15-3 win, wrapping up the 1 seed and a first round bye. Hits from Carson Berry (1), Egan Lowery (1), Sylas Amick (2), K.J Beck (2), Gavin Clanton (2), Dee Spears (1) and Dez Kemp (1) led the Birmingham Giants attack.
K.J Beck (3-2) started the Birmingham Giants first bracket play game against Fayette County. In a game that lasted just 3 innings, Beck went all 3, allowing just 1 hit, striking out 2 in the 15-0 shutout. At the plate Carson Berry (1, 2b), Sylas Amick (2, HR), K.J Beck (1), Peyton Jackson (1), Peyton Berendt (1), and a great defensive play Kevin Hurley that ended game led to the win. The win propelled the Giants into the championship game against the Grays.
Sylas Amick pitched the championship game, going all 4 innings, allowing just 2 hits, and striking out 8, to go along with 2 earned runs. At the plate, the Giants just 4 hits (Sylas Amick 1, Peyton Jackson 1, Peyton Berendt 2b, and Dee Spears), but stranded 6 base runners in the 4-3 loss.
This was the 8th trip to the state final game, 6 of which have ended in 1 run defeats. The Giants 11u will play next Nov 1 in Millbrook.
