The Birmingham Giants 03 won the Birmingham Giants first state tournament title Saturday at Millcreek. After seeding second through pool play the Giants 03 rolled through their bracket play to win the title.
In their first pool play game, the Giants faced off with the Marengo Mavericks. Chy Barnhill threw the organizations 23rd no hitter of all time, striking out 3. At the plate hits from Chy Barnhill (2, HR,2b), Reese Lowery (1), Abbie Warnick (2), Ali King (2, 2b), Piper Lowery (2), Krista Glaze (2), Kailey Hicks (2), Lauren Dill (1), Taylor Simpkins (2), and Julia Petty (1) led the way to a 17-0 win.
In game 2, the Birmingham Giants 03 were matched up with the TC Titans. Julia Petty (9-3) struck out 6, allowing just 2 hits over 5 innings and 2 spectacular plays by Abbie Warnick in right field closed out the last inning as the Giants pulled out the 2-0 win. Hits from Chy Barnhill (1), Kailey Hicks (1), and Julia Petty (1), were enough for the 2-0 win.
The win seated the a Giants 2nd overall seed and yet another match up with the Marengo Mavericks. Chy Barnhill (7-4) again pitched all 3 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 run in the 10-1 win. Reese Lowery (1), Ali King (2, 1 2b), Chy Barnhill (2), Krista Glaze (2, 1 HR (grand slam) 2b), Kailey Hicks (1), Lauren Dill (1), and Taylor Simpkins (1) all had hits to lead the Giants.
The win moved the Birmingham Giants 03 into the Semifinal game against the TC Titans. Julia Petty became the first Birmingham Giants pitcher to record 200 strike outs in a season, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 6 more, to break the 200 strike outs for the season. Chy Barnhill (1), and Krista Glaze (1), to go along with 6 walks which led to the Giants 6 runs and the organizations 8th trip to the state tournament championship game.
In the championship game the Giants led off the top of the first inning against Kryptonite with 5 of their first 6 runners reaching base, 4 of which scored, enroute to a 9-3 win. Abbie Warnick (1), Ali King (2, 1 2b), Chy Barnhill (1, 2b), Piper Lowery (2, 1 3b), Krista Glaze (1, 3b), Taylor Simpkins (2), and Julia Petty all had hits to pace the giants. Chy Barnhill picked up the win and Julia Petty closed out the win, the first ever State Tournament win for the Birmingham Giants Organization.
The Birmingham Giants 03 finished their 2015 campaign with a 57-30-3 record.
