8U Birmingham Giants Futures play first 2 tournaments

8u spring 2016The newly formed 8u Birmingham Futures Giants coached by Candice Scott began their 2016 campaign the final weekend in February, playing their first tournament in Trussville , and following it up the following weekend in Hoover. Being one of the youngest team, the Futures are learning 2 new roles that will serve them well over the coming year. They are working constantly on their fundamentals, and secondly, they are learning to compete on a new level, which they are excelling at both.

GIANT POLOGROUNDSIn their first ever game, playing the Dothan Heat, Savannah, had the teams very first hit in their existence, and that was followed up by hits from Piper (Hawk), Kaleigh, and McKenzie (Mac and Cheese), Savannah also scored the teams very run. Baylee (Red) had 2 hits, as did Ryleigh, McKenzie, and Piper, and Kobe and Kailee (KK) added a hits of their own. The Giants lost 15-10 in their opener.

In their final 2 games of their opening tournament, the Giants were matched with teams that were in most cases 2 years older than they were. The futures gave a Giant effort but came up a little short, but began their transformation into a team that is learning how to compete, and have fun doing it.

 

GIANT POLOGROUNDSIn their second tournament, the Giants Futures played in Hoover, matching up with again teams that are in some cases 2 yearsGIANT POLOGROUNDS older than they were. Piper hit the teams first Home run, and the team got hits from Bella, Savannah, and Baylee in their first game.

In their second game of the day the Giants got hits from Piper, Bella, Savannah, Kailee, Ryleigh, and Kobe.

Moving on to bracket play, the Giants faced off with the 08 mustangs, a team they had lost 2 in their first pool play game. This time the growth of the Giants Futures continued to show, and the Futures put up a real fight, falling just short 10-9. The Futures line up hit well , with hits from Piper, Bella, Savannah, Baylee, Ryleigh, Kaleigh, and Kobe.

GIANT POLOGROUNDSDefensively the Futures played much better in their second tournament with some of the highlights being Ryleigh throwing a runner out at 2nd base, Baylee recording all 3 outs in an inning, McKenzie Catching a flyball, and Piper and Kailee both making plays at the plate to stop the lead runner.

The Giants Futures are off this weekend and will resume play on the 19th.
