11u Birmingham Giants Start slow, Finish Strong

imagePlaying in their first BPA tournament this spring, the 11-6-1 11u Birmingham Giants started slow in their first 2 pool play games again, only to once again charge to another tournament championship.

In their first pool play game, the Giants were unable to hold a 1-0 lead and fell behind 6-1 going into the last inning, where they scored 3 more runs , but came up on the short end of a 6-4 score against Top Gun. Carson Berry (1-1) made the start on the mound, going 3 innings, allowing 4 hits while striking out 4. At the plate the Giants offense was paced by Sylas Amick (2, 1 2b), KJ Beck (1, 2b), Egan Lowery (2),  Jarod Latta (2), and JB Landrum (1).

In their second pool play game the Giants faced off with P3 Baseball.  John Pickens started the game on the mound for the Giants, pitching a complete game, allowing 2 hits, while striking out 4, picking off 2 runners at first base, and Gavin Clanton threw out another trying to steal 2nd base.

At the plate,  the Giants managed just 4 hits of their own, John Pickens (1), Sylas Amick (1), KJ Beck (1), and Gavin Clanton (1), out hitting p3, but it was not enough as the Giants fell 5-3. For the 3rd time in the last 4 tournament the Giants went into bracket play having dropped their 2 pool play games (2-5-1 in pool play this spring) and for the 2nd time in the last 3 tournaments, the Giants went unbeaten in bracket play (9-1 in elimination games this spring) to roll to another championship.

Culman Baseball was up first, facing Sylas “Tank ” Amick (4-0), who pitched a complete game 1 hitter, striking out 6 guiding the Giants back into the Championship Game. Hits from John Pickens (1), Sylas Amick (2), KJ Beck (1, 2b),  Egan Lowery (1), Gavin “Cowboy” Clanton (1, 2b), and Peyton Berendt led the way to the Giants 3-1 victory and a Birth in the Championship again.

Egan “Samauri” Lowery (2-2) took the mound in the championship game, facing off with the sand mountain shockers. Allowing 2 runs in the first inning, Lowery tightened up, allowing no more runs the rest of the way, and just 1 hit over the final 4 innings, while striking out 7.

 

GIANT POLOGROUNDSGavin Clanton (2) led the way with 2 more hits, Peyton Jackson (1), Egan Lowery (1), and JB Landrum (1), all contributed to a Giants offense that scratched out 4 runs in the 4-2 victory.

The 11u Birmingham Giants are now 11-6-1 on the spring and 24-11-1 over all, and will play again this weekend in Centerville.
