After a few changes in the off season, the 02 Birmingham Giants took the field Saturday and picked up right where they left off, finishing 2nd. Blakely Burr picked up one of the wins for the Giants, which was her 39th all time, moving her into a tie for most wins all time. In game 1 of pool play the Giants offense was shut down, managing just a couple of base runners in the 3-0 loss. Again in game 2 the Giants manged just 2 base runners in the 5-0 loss, giving them an 0-2 start heading in to bracket play.
As usual the Giants are extremely difficult to eliminate, and in game 1 of bracket play their offense finally woke up, hits came from Tess Mitchell (1), Ka’Mya Hampton (1), Raegan Beightol (1), Kinley Hall (1), Kim Livingston (1, 2b), Blakely Burr (1, 2b), Tori Morrison (1), and Allison Parker (1, 2b) in the 9-1 win over Havoc. Blakely Burr (1-1)picked up the win, her 39th alltime, pitching all 5 innings, allowing just 5 hits while striking out 7. The win moved the Giants on to the semi final round.
The Giants offense wasted no time, scoring 8 runs in their first 2 innings behind hits from Tess Mitchell (2), Allison Roberson (1), Ka’Mya Hampton (1), Raegan Beightol (2), Kinley Hall (1) , Kim Livingston (2, 2b), Blake Burr (1), Alli Parker (1), and Calli Simmons (1). Ka’Mya Hampton (1-1) Started the game in the circle and Blakely Burr closed the game out,and the Giants moved back to the Championship game, where they came in second to end their first day of play in the fall 2016 season.
