In their 4th season of play, and after winning back to back state tournaments, the Birmingham Giants 03 finished 3rd in the state , finishing in the top 3 for the 3rd straight season. In game 1 of pool play the 03 Birmingham Giants were matched up with Team Ice. Blakely Burr started the game in the circle, tossing 4 shutout innings, while striking out 3 as the Giants pushed 4 runs across of their own, on their way to the 4-0 win. At the plate, Giant hits came from Allison Roberson (2), Lauren Dill (2), Kailey Hicks (1), Whitney Sellers (1), and Paige Buttram (1).
In game 2 of pool play the Giants were matched up with the eventual 4th place finisher, the Elite Sox from Dothan. After jumping out to an early lead, the Giants were unable to close out the game and the Sox came back to defeat the Giants 10-9. At the plate the Giants offense was paced by Reese Lowery (1), Allison Roberson ( 2b, 3b), Kailey Hicks (2), Piper Lowery (1), Blakely Burr (1), Whitney Sellers (2), and Paige Buttram (3b). Despite the loss, the Giants still seated 1st in their pool going into bracket play.
In game 1 of bracket play, the Giants were matched up with the Krush. Blakely Burr allowed juts 4 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 4, and just 1 run in the 3-1 win. Allison Roberson (2, 3B), Lauren Dill (2), Kailey Hicks (2, 2B), Whitney Sellers (1), and Paige Buttram (3b) led the Giants to the 3-1 win.
In their 2nd game of bracket play, Blakely Burr again took the circle, striking out 5 in 5 innings, and after trailing for 4 of the 5 innings, Lauren Dill tied the game at 4 with a 2 run Home Run, and Blakely Burr hit a walk off triple for the win. Hits for the Giants came from Reese Lowery (1), Allison Roberson (3b), Lauren Dill (HR), Kailey Hicks (2, 2b), Blakely Burr (2, 3b), and Whitney Sellers (1). The win moved the Giants into the Semi Finals to face Madison Mayham.
Scoring 5 runs in the first 2 innings the Giants jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but were unable to hold the lead, and the game was forced into extra innings, where the Giants fell 6-5. Blakely Burr pitched all 6 innings, allowing just 5 hits while striking out 2, and the Giants offense mustered 8 hits of their own, Reese Lowery (1), Allison Roberson (2b), Lauren Dill (3b), Kailey Hicks (1), Blakely Burr (3), and Paige Buttram (1).
The loss left the Giants to finish in 3rd place, as the 03 Birmingham Giants in 4 seasons have never finished less than 4th in the state tournament.
