After stumbling on saturday in pool play, the 11u Birmingham Giants roared back with an undefeated sunday to sweep the competition and win their tournament. In their first game of pool play, the Giants were matched up with the Express. After struggling defensively the Giants finally dropped a 13-8 contest. At the plate Jamison Green (2, 1 2B), Kolton Hudgins (1), Caden Cain (2B), Aubrey Sanders (2B), Brodie Jackson (1), and Jay Fuller (1) all had hits for the Giants.
In game 2 of pool play, the Giants were matched with the Bandits. For the second game in a row, the Giants uncharacteristically struggled defensively, surrendering 6 unearned runs in the 11-5 loss. At the plate hits came from Caden “Cainzilla” Cain (2, 1 HR), Max Hollingsworth (1), Caleb Johnson (HR), Aubrey Sanders (1), and Chris Jackson (1). The 2 losses seeded the Giants last out of 14 teams going into sundays bracket play.
In their first game on sunday bracket play, the Giants faced off with Chop baseball and in a complete turnaround , the Giants bats and defense woke up. Jamison Green (1), Jay Fuller (1), Caleb Johnson (1), Aubrey Sanders (1), Chris Jackson (1), Isiah Miles (2), Parker Stewart (1), and Caden “Cainzilla” Cain (2, 1HR) who hit his second home run of the weekend. On the mound Caden Cain started the game tossing 2 scoreless innings, striking out 3 and Jamison Green struck out 4 over the final 2 innings to close out the 11-3 win.
The win moved the Giants into the semifinals to face the Alabama Halos. Max Hollingsworth took the hill, allowing just 4 hits over 5 innings, striking out 3 in the 9-0 win. At the plate Jamison Green (1), Jay Fuller (2B), Caleb Johnson (1), Aubrey Sanders (1), Trevor Cox (1), and Isiah Miles (1) all had hits for the Giants in the victory that moved the Giants into the finals.
In the Championship game, Caden Cain continued his big weekend, tossing all 5 innings on the mound, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 9 for the win. At the plate Jamison Green (2, 1 2B), Kolton Hudgins (2B), Jay Fuller (2B), Cainzilla (2)Max Hollingsworth (2), Caleb Johnson (2), Trevor Cox (2B), and Isiah Miles (2) all had hits for the Giants in the 18-0 win. The win set the Giants mark at 14-8 on the season, moving into their tournament this weekend.
