Starting their fall campaign, the 16u Birmingham Giants traveled to Coastal Alabama and LBW on saturday and sunday posting a rain shortened 2-1-2 record. Starting the first game of the season, Giants alltime win leader Blakely Burr picked up her 62 win all time, tossing 3 innings of 1 hit ball, while striking out 1 and the Giants, who jumped out to an 11-1 lead early cruised to an 11-6 win. At the plate, Emma Bauer (1), Piper Lowery (2B), Katelyn Lankford (2, 1 2B), Lauren Dill (2B), Blakely Burr (1), Courtney Haynie (1), Lexi Copeland (1), Rileigh Mitcham (2), and Reese Lowery (1) all had hits for the Giants.
In game 2 of the day, the Giants squared off with the Fire Crackers 16u. Courtney Haynie started the game in the circle, pitching 3 innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 run and Emily Jones closed out the game allowing just 1 run over 2 innings of the 2-2 tie. Offensively Emma Bauer (2), Piper Lowery (2B), Kailey Hicks (1), Lauren Dill (1), and Reese Lowery (1) led the way for the Giants in the tie.
In their 3rd game of the weekend, the Giants squared off with the River Region Rebels. Rileigh Mitcham started the game in the circle, allowing 1 run over her 2 innings of work, but some late runs in the 3rd inning cost the Giants as they fell 6-1. At the plate Kailey Hicks (2B), Lauren Dill (1), Blakely Burr (1), and Reese Lowery (1) all had hits in the loss.
In game 4 of the weekend, Blakely Burr picked up her 63rd win as the Giants played a split game which ended 2-2 with the Nola Monsters.
In their last game of the weekend, a rained filled game stopped early, Blakely Burr picked up her 64th win all time and Kailey Hicks (2B), and Katelym Lankford (1) had hits in the 1-0 win.
The Giants play next at the Wallace state expo on the 8th and 9th.
