11u Birmingham Giants crowned BPA State Champions

The 11u Birmingham Giants won the organizations 7th state tournament title on saturday in Boaz after posting a 4-0 mark against the competition. The Giants started their day with a pool play game against Heros baseball. Tallon Whetstone started the game on the mound, tossing 3 innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 run, while striking out 3, before Brody Jackson came on to close out the 7-1 win. At the plate Tallon Whetston (1), Chris Jackson (1), Cole Foster (1), Cayden Knight (3B), Devin Schmalz (1), and Parker Stewart (1) all had hits for the Giants.
In their second game of pool play, the Giants were matched up with MC Elite. Aubrey Sanders pitched all 3 innings on the mound, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit while striking out 4 for the 20-2 win. At the Plate Chris Jackson (1), Aubrey Sanders (2), Cole Foster (2), Cayden Knight (2B), Devin Schmalz (2, 1 2B), Parker Stewart (1), Westin Burnette (1), Olin Bryant (2), and Kayden Woods (2B) all had hits to power the Giants offense. The win seated the Giants first overall heading into bracket play.

After a first round bye, the Giants first opponent in bracket play was PC Elite. Brody Jackson started the game on the hill, tossing 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and 3 runs, and striking out 3 in the 7-3 win. At the plate Chris Jackson (1), Cole Foster (1), Cayden Knight (2), Devin Schmalz (1), Brody Jackson (2), and Westin Burnett (1) powered the Giants offense in the win. The win sent the Giants to the BPA state finals as the 1 seed.

Tallon Whetstone again made the start in the Championship game, and tossed 4 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4. The Giants trailed 3-1 after 2 1/2 innings, and with 2 outs in the bottom of the 3rd, Tallon Whetstone singles, and Chris Jackson (2, 1 HR) tied the game on the first pitch he saw with his first home run as a Giant, and Aubrey Sanders (2, 1 2B) followed in with a double and Cole Foster (2B) followed it with a double of his own to put the Giants in the lead 4-3. The win crowned the Giants BPA 11U State Champions.
