Continuing their winning ways, the 12u Birmingham Giants-Hudgins ran their season record 5-1, finishing 2nd on saturday in Cullman. In their first game of pool play the Giants faced the Alabama Spartans. Alex Guthrie started the game on the hill, tossing 2 innings, allowing no hits while striking out 4. Alex Reynolds came on to close out the final 2 innings of the 7-6 win. At the plate Alex Guthrie(1), Kolton Hudgins (2), Daniel Stringfellow (2B), Max Hollingsworth (1), Hoss Bensko (1), Alex Reynolds (2B), and Will Mize (1) all had hits for the Giants in the win.
In game 2 of pool play the Giants squared off with the Alabama Braves. Daniel Stringfellow and Max Hollingsworth allowed just 2 earned runs over 4 innings of the 7-7 tie. Daniel Stringfellow (2), Caden Cain (1), Max Hollingsworth (1), and Trevor Cox (1) all had hits for the Giants.
Moving into bracket play, the Giants seated 3rd, and were scheduled to play the Shockers. Alex Reynolds allowed just 2 earned runs over 5 innings, while striking out 5. Offensively Alex Guthrie (1), Kolton Hudgins (2), Caden Cain (2B), Hoss Bensko (2B), Alex Reynolds (1), and Will Mize (1) all had hits for the Giants as they rolled to a 9-3 win and a spot in the Championship game.
In the championship game after leading 10-3 going into the final inning, the Giants were just unable to hold the lead as the game slipped away 13-10. Offensively Alex Guthrie (3, 1 2B), Kolton Hudgins (1), Daniel Stringfellow (2, 1 HR), Caden Cain (2), Max Hollingsworth (1), Hoss Bensko (1), Alex Reynolds (1), Trevor Cox (1), Will Mize (1) and Karrington Daniels all had hits for the Giants as the came up a little short, finishing 2nd.
