After suffering their first loss of the season, a heart breaking 11-10 defeat, the 8u Birmingham Giants rebounded to run the table in bracket play to bring home their first super NIT title this weekend in Culman. With their season record standing at 18-1 so far this spring, the Giants continued their dominant play rolling off 3 in a row after the defeat. In game 1 the Giants were scheduled to play the Hits. After trailing 6-1 through 3 innings, the Giants offense erupted for 9 runs over the last 3 innings to talk a 10-7 lead into the last frame, where hits scored 4 runs to walk off an 11-10 win, the Giants first loss of the season. At the plate the Giants received hits from Zander Leamon (2), Brody Flack (2), John Bryant Fowler (2, 1 HR), Weston Morton (2), Lucas Busby (2), Aaron Robinson (3), Justin Hill (2), Blake Freeman (1), and Kameron Laws (2) all had hits.
In game 2 of pool play, the Giants were matched up against Showcase Baseball. In a contest in which they never trailed, the Giants scored 7 runs in each of the first 3 innings to coast to the 21-1 win. Offensively Zander Leamon (3), Ross Christy (3), Brody Flack (3), John Bryant Fowler (3), Weston Morton (3), Lucas Busby (2), Aaron Robinson (2), Justin Hill (2), Blake Freeman (2),Tyson Latham (2) and Kameron Laws (2) had hits as the Giants cruised to the 21-1 win.
Moving into Bracket play, the Birmingham Giants played their first contest of bracket play against Power Athletics. After trailing 3-0 after the first inning, the Giants exploded for a 7 run 2nd inning to take the lead for good, and finished with a 10-8 win. The Giants offense had hits from
Zander Leamon (1), Ross Christy (3), Brody Flack (1), Weston Morton (2), Lucas Busby (2), Aaron Robinson (2), Justin Hill (3), Blake Freeman (3),Tyson Latham (3) and Kameron Laws (3) to lead the team to the win. The win sent the Giants to the finals of bracket play to again face Hits.
In the Super NIT Finals, the Giants trailed 4-3 after 2 innings, but the Giants defense stiffened and allowed no more runs the rest of the way, winnings easily and avenging their earlier loss with a 15-4 win. Zander Leamon (3), Ross Christy (4), Brody Flack (3), John Bryant Fowler (3), Weston Morton (2), Lucas Busby (2), Aaron Robinson (2), Justin Hill (2), Blake Freeman (3),Tyson Latham (2) and Kameron Laws (2) had hits for the Giants as they won the Super NIT title.
