The Birmingham Giants 8u Softball team traveled to Fulton Mississippi to play in a tournament on saturday, and returned with a perfect 3-0 mark and the tournament championship. In their first pool play game the Giants were matched up with the Heartbreakers. The Giants jumped out early to a 6-0 lead after 2 innings, and finished up with a 15-3 win. Offensively the Giants were led by Natalia Mathews (2), Kendall Burch (2), Skylan Dyson (2), Kira Vines (2), Mackenzie Sansing (2), Sophia Carroll (3), Haley Gothard (2), Addison Praytor (2), Abigail Erreca (2), and Addison Bailey (1), all of whom had hits for the Giants in the win.
In game 2 of pool play the Giants squared off with the Mississippi Express. After trailing early, the Giants stormed back with 11 runs in the final 3 innings of the 6 inning contest to grab the 13-6 win. Natalia Mathews (4), Kendall Burch (1), Skylan Dyson (1), Kira Vines (3, 1 HR), Mackenzie Sansing (1), Sophia Carroll (1), Haley Gothard (2), Khloe Kennedy (2), Addison Praytor (2), Abigail Erreca (1), and Addison Bailey (1) all had hits including Kira Vines over the fence Home Run. The win seated the Giants first heading into Bracket Play.
In theri first and only bracket play game before the rain came, the Giants again were matched up with the Heartbreakers. The Giants grabbed an early 4-0 lead and cruised to an 8-1 win. At the plate Natalia Mathews (1), Kendall Burch (1), Skylan Dyson (2), Kira Vines (1), Mackenzie Sansing (2), Sophia Carroll (2), Haley Gothard (2), and Abigail Erreca (2) all had hits in the win. With heavy rain that arrived after their pool play game, the Giants were award the championship based on seatings.
