After an injury filled start to the season, the Birmingham Giants 12u Hudgins began to hit their stride sat and sunday in calera, rolling off 5 wins in a row on their way to another championship. In game 1 of pool play, the Giants were matched up with the Alabama Pistols, and in a game that turned out to be a pitchers duel, Daniel Stringfellow (4IP, 2BB, 4K) and Alex Reynolds (W, 2IP 2K, 1BB) tossed the Clubs 60th no hitter all time, and Giants managed just 2 hits of their own, Daniel Stringfellow (HR) and Max Hollingsworth(HR), who’s 3 run home run broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 5th inning to give the Giants the win.
In game 2 of pool play, the Giants were scheduled to play the Bandits. Max Hollingsworth started the Game on the mound, allowing no hits over 3 , while striking out 6, and Caden Cain closed out the game with 4 k’s over 2 innings. The Giants allowed just a single hit over their first 10 1/3 innings of play, leaving them just 2/3 of an inning short of matching the club record of 11 straight hitless innings. At the plate, the Giants Home Run rampage continued, as the offense received hits from Alex Guthrie (3, 1 HR), Caleb Johnson (3), Daniel Stringfellow (HR), Caden Cain ( HR), and Alex Reynolds (1).
The win seated the Giants 2nd going into sunday play. In their first bracket play game, the Giants faced off with the Cluth 12u. Caden Cain allowed just 4 hits over 5 innings , while striking out 4, as the Giants cruised to the 10-3 win. Alex Guthrie (2), Kolton Hudgins (2B), Caleb Johnson (2), Daniel Stringfellow (2B), Alex Reynolds (2), Aubrey Sanders (2, 1 2B), Talon Whetstone (1), Trevor Cox (1), and Max Hollingsworth (1) all had hits for the Giants in the win. The victory moved the Giants on to play the Angels, unbeaten in their last 14 games.
The Angels came into the game riding a 14 game win streak, until, the faced the Giants. Max Hollingsworth allowed just 1 earned run over 3 innings, and Alex Reynolds closed out the game as the Giants ended the streak as they have so many others. At the plate Alex Guthrie (2, 1 HR), Kolton Hudgins (1), Caleb Johnson (2, 1HR), Alex Reynolds (1), Aubrey Samders (1), Trevor Cox (2B), and Max Hollingsworth (2) all had hits in the victory. The win moved the Giants into the finals to face the Ballers.
In the Championship game, the Giants started Daniel Stringfellow on the mound, and closed out the game with Talon Whetstone and the Giants rolled to a 13-7 win.
