Kicking off the 2020 season, the Birmingham Giants look to improve on the 373-181-12 mark the posted in the 2019 campaign. After signing their entire signing class, the Giants have added an 8u team (Softball) and a 10u Team (Baseball) and are now at a total of 15 teams. Here is a breakdown of the teams:
8u Softball: Coach Lathan Alexander and his 8u squad return nearly all of a roster that posted 3 1st or 2nd place finishes in the fall of 2019, and with a strong roster of Addison Bailey, Addison Glover, Brooklynn Davlin, Emaleigh Parker, Grace Turner, Hadlee Mason, Hilton Ashe, Jheida Reed, Kinley Seibert, Paisley Mullins, Autumn Ponds, and Rylie Mann they should increase those totals.
8u Baseball: Looking to improve on their 14-3 mark from the fall and their 42-13-1 mark from 2019. Coach Mike Shoults returns his entire roster along with the addition of Miles Sanders. Brayden Helms (43, Extra Base hits leader) and Will Shoults (.827 average) lead the cast of players that include Braeden Wainwright, Brons Anderson, Cam Buford, Ethan Passmore, Landon Coleman, Luke Francis, Mason Jones, Taj Salaam, and Tanner Egan.
9u Baseball: After posting a 61-8 mark for 2019, the 9u Birmingham Giants come into the spring 2020 season for coach Cory Massey returning 2019 10 and Under Player of the year Ross Christy, along with returning players Aaron Robinson, Justin Hill, Kam Laws, Landon Kyle, Lucas Busby, Max Bell, and Taylon Johnson, along with new comers Legend McMiller and General Wilcher to round out another strong squad for Head Coach Corey Massey and Coach Wilbur Christy.
10u Softball: After completing their first season at 10u in the fall 2019, Coach Chris Carroll and his 10u team, posted a 9 win season in their first season of kid pitch softball. Returning nearly his entire squad from 2019 including Kira Vines (Extra Base Hits, 24) and Skylan Dyson (.614) along with Kendall Burch, Abigail Erreca, Reagan Warren, Khloe Kennedy, Anna Claire Ledbetter, Haylee Gothard, Addison Praytor, Khloe Herron, and Sophia Carroll to make up an improving 10u team that should be very successful squad in 2020.
10u Baseball: Head Coach Quinton Lackeys 10u squad heads into its first season with a strong squad anchored by strong pitching staff, including Tylan Floyd, Elijah Lackey and Andrew Ammons, Makai Gallego, Jackson Gant, Charlie Hill, Kade Johnson, Nigel Laws, Lngston Smith, Izayah Teer and Nolan Wiggins they should have a strong first spring.
12u Softball: Through the 2019 season Coach Steven Rowes squad posted a 33-19-2 mark, after moving up to 12u softball. With a great returning core of Piper Rowe, Kaydence Hays, Cecily Johnson, Hailey Nichols, Emily Vorster,Jamie Highley, and Lauren Smith, the Giants also added new comers Skiely Perry, and Molly Grace Pappas to round out a strong squad with a very strong pitching staff.
12u Baseball: Coach Nick Stones 12u squad comes off a a 2019 year where it posted a 27-19-3 mark, returning most of the squad from the fall 2019 season. Returning players Aubrey Sanders, Caleb Reed, Olen Bryant, Kaden Woods, Kason Munoz, Johnthan Smith, Parker Robinson and William Dutton along with new comers Jake Holdenfield and Judson Bryant should add to a strong line up for the 2020 season.
13u Baseball Graves: Returning pitchers Talon Whetstone, Brody Jackson and players Cole Foster, Aiden Agee, Brayden Deale, Cayden Knight, Chris Jackson, Devin Schmalz, Garrett Bibb, Jaizyhaus Brooks, and new comers Jamison Green, Quinton Harbin, Karter and Kade Brockman and Weston Hyche round out a much improved 13u team.
13u Baseball Reynolds: Anchored by 2019 Players of the Year Pre Showcase Alex Guthrie and Daniel Stringfellow, Coach Brad Reynolds squad returns also Pitcher Max Hollingsworth, Caden Cain, Alex Reynolds, Karington Daniels, Matt Egan, Caleb Johnson, Trevor Cox and Will Mize to try and improve on a 10-1-1 fall season.
14u Softball Pervus: Coach Maddie Pervus returns leading hitter Micheala Sweet (.480), extra base hit leader Sara Beth Gill (15), along with 2019 Pre Showcase player of the year Sophie Gromko, and most improved defensively Lanie Otwell along with new comers Hannah and Emma Parmely, Katie Hopson , Kaylee Bias, McKenzie Little, Reece Carden, and Samantha Wedell to round out a roster capable of tremendous growth this spring season.
14u Baseball Branham: After posting an 11-4 mark this fall the 14u squad, returning every player, along with a couple of new additions is poised to have another outstanding spring. Coach David Branham and a core of outstanding young pitcher ( Dakota Cobb, Dawson Shoults, Hayden Dupree, Jacob Isom(5-1) along with 2019 Mentor award winner Davis Cruce, returners Anderson McBride, Braylen Hudson, Braden Carroll, Brock Posey, CJ Okon, Dallas Beck (Extra Base Hit leader 5) and Trent Mays and new comers Riley Turner and Jackson McMillian round out a team ready for great things in 2020.
15/16u Baseball McGuire: Returning pitching wins leader JB Landrum (5) and ERA Leader Aiden Latham (3.14), and power hitting 1b Aaron Pearson(2019 New Comer), and returners Andrew Putman, Ashton Woods, Gavin Clanton, Seth Pardue, Silas Clayton (2019 New Comer ), Will Allen, and Zac Fordham and new comer Garrett Whitehead round out a strong squad for the 2020 summer season.
16u Softball Mullenix: With 2 teams in the 16u age group, the Birmingham Giants 16u softball led by Dana Mullenix return several key players going into the summer 2020 season. Reese Lowery, Piper Lowery (2019 Mentor Award Winners), Anna Jones , Emily Jones, Ka’Mya Hampton (2019 Showcase Player of the Year), Lilly Werling, Sarah Hindman (2019 New Comer of the year), Shauna Kelly (2019 New Comer of the year), All Time Strike Out Leader and 2019 Pre Showcase Player of the Year Alyssa Faircloth, Ella Morgan Sears, Ella Walker, Mary Grace Sizemore, Morgan Rice, Nattie Miles, Olivia Stoults, Reagan Thrasher and Trinity Britnell and New comers Abigail Price, Aubri Giardina, Halle Koger, MacKenzie Cole, and Shalaylah Waidround out the 2 strong rosters ready for a very competitive summer schedule.
16/17 Baseball: 2019 Showcase Players of the year Luke Walden and Andrew Kellum anchor a pitching staff that also boasts All Time strike out leader Jarod Latta (293), Tank (32-15 all time) Jacob Thurber, Egan Lowery, Alex Bradford (Club Record 10 Stolen Bases in 3 Gmaes), Zac Egan, Mike Dutton and Tate Burkholder, along with standout Centerfielder Cameron Harris, and Catchers Alex Drake and Deason Davis round out a quad that posted only 1 loss from july to october. They head into the summer showcase season stronger than ever and ready to improve on the great fall season.
