Following up on their second place finish in their first tournament of the year, the Birmingham Giants 8u baseball team rolled off a 3-1 record to place first, winning the championship by an 18-11 score.
In game 1 of pool play, the Giants faced off with the Tenn Storm. The Giants jumped out to an early lead, and held on for a 17-13 win. Brons Anderson (2), Brayden Helms (3), Cam Buford (3), Will Shoults (2), Braeden Wainwright (3), Tanner Egan (1), Landon Coleman (2), Luke Francis (2), Ethan Passmore (2), and Taj Salaam (2) all had hits to led the Giants offense.
In game 2 of pool play, the Giants were matched up with the WC Thunder. While posting 2 shut out innings, the Giants defense allowed 11 runs in the other 2 innings with defensive laps which cost the Giants their only loss on the day. Brons Anderson (3), Brayden Helms (2), Cam Buford (1), Will Shoults (1), Braeden Wainwright (2), Tanner Egan (2), Landon Coleman (1), Luke Francis (1), Ethan Passmore (1) and Taj Salaam (1) all had hits in the loss. The Giants went into Bracket play seated 2nd, and schedule to plat the Tenn Storm.
In the semifinal game of bracket play, scoring 7 runs in the first and 5 more in the second the Giants coasted to a 12-1 lead. Brons Anderson (2), Brayden Helms (2), Cam Buford (1), Will Shoults (2), Braeden Wainwright (1), Tanner Egan (2), Landon Coleman (1), Luke Francis (1), and Taj Salaam (1) all had hits in the Giants win. The win sent the Birmingham Giants to the Finals to again face the WC thunder.
In the Championship game, WC Thunder jumped out to an 11-1 lead after 2 innings. The game changed in the 3rd inning, as the Giants posted 7 runs, 3 in the fourth and 7 more in the 5th while allowing only 3 runs from the 2nd inning on. Offensively Brons Anderson (1), Brayden Helms (3), Cam Buford (3, 1 HR), Will Shoults (2), Braeden Wainwright (2, 1 HR), Tanner Egan (2), Landon Coleman (3), Luke Francis (2), Ethan Passmore (1) and Taj Salaam (1) all had hits as the Birmingham Giants brought home the championship.
